Repair Photographs From the Floor, Sorted by What They Prove

In shortEvery job here is photographed at intake, at teardown and at delivery. These plates are the teardown frames, which are the ones that decide supplement approval and the ones owners never see.

What do OCRV Center repair photographs actually show?

They show the three moments that matter: the unit as it arrived, the structure once panels were removed, and the finished surface. Rancho Santa Margarita owners see the same file we send an adjuster, because photographs taken at teardown in Yorba Linda are what justify every hour added to a scope.

Most shop galleries are marketing: a clean unit in good light, before and after, no explanation. Those photographs are pleasant and they prove very little, because a repainted panel looks correct whether or not the wall behind it was rebuilt properly. The frames that actually matter are the ugly ones taken with the panel off and a tape measure in the shot.

So this page is organized by what a photograph was taken to establish rather than by how good it looks. If you are trying to work out whether a shop knows what it is doing, the teardown frames are the ones to read.

Intake frames: the unit as it arrived

The first set is shot before anything is touched, in daylight where possible, with the whole unit in frame and then each damaged area at two distances. Wide establishes context: which corner, which side, relative to the wheels and the door. Close establishes detail: the crack tip, the fastener line, the direction the fiberglass moved. Both matter, because a close up with no context can be argued to be a different unit.

Intake frames also record what was already wrong. A prior repair with a visible witness line, a mismatched panel from a previous owner, chalking on the same wall we are about to blend into. Owners occasionally dislike that part. It protects them, because the alternative is an adjuster deciding at week three that something old was caused by us.

Teardown frames: what the panel was hiding

This is the set that decides money. Once a skin comes off, the actual condition of the framing, the substrate and the insulation becomes visible, and almost every RV job grows at this point. Wet lauan reads dark and crumbles at the fastener holes. An aluminum cage member that took the impact shows a kink you cannot see through the skin. Water that traveled from a roof seam shows a stain trail that runs downhill from somewhere nobody suspected.

Each of those gets photographed with something in frame for scale and with the location identifiable. A supplement written from a photograph of rotten decking with no reference point gets questioned. The same finding, photographed with a tape across it and the slide opening visible behind it, gets approved. The difference is not honesty, it is legibility.

Measurement frames: structure, not appearance

Structural work cannot be photographed convincingly. A straightened rail looks like a rail. What proves the repair is the comparison sheet from the measuring system, before and after, against published factory dimensions, and that document is part of every structural file that leaves here. On a body on frame coach it covers the rails and body mounts. On a unibody van it covers the control points the manufacturer specifies.

We include those printouts in the gallery deliberately, even though they are the least photogenic thing in the building. An owner comparing two shops has almost no way to evaluate structural work except by asking whether measurement is documented, and a shop that does it will show you the sheet without being asked twice.

Delivery frames: finish, gaps and seal lines

The last set is the one most shops publish and the one we treat as least interesting, because by then the hard decisions are behind you. Still, three things get photographed at delivery for a reason. Panel gaps, since an even gap is the visible evidence that the structure underneath was corrected first. Seal lines at the roof to sidewall joint and around any opening that was disturbed. And the blend, shot at an angle in raking light where a mismatch shows worst rather than head on where it hides.

Color is checked before this stage, not at it. A spray out card is sprayed, cured and held against the actual panel in daylight, because a paint code from a decade ago describes what left the factory and not what fifteen summers of ultraviolet exposure left on the wall.

What is not on this page

No unit is published with a legible plate, a VIN or an identifying wrap unless the owner asked for it. Commercial and municipal work is almost never published at all, because a photograph of a damaged apparatus with a department shield in frame is a document the department controls and not one we do. Fleet operators generally prefer their downtime not be searchable, which is reasonable.

Nothing here is retouched beyond exposure and cropping. A repair photograph with the contrast pushed to hide a witness line would defeat the entire purpose of the exercise, and the same file goes to the carrier, where somebody is paid to notice.

The visible crush was eleven inches across. Tapping found separated bond over an area roughly the size of a dinner plate above and to the left of it, which is why the repair opened the corner rather than filling it. A mold was taken off the opposite corner, a section hand laid, bonded and refinished at the body and paint rate.

The owner brought it in for a chip. The teardown frame is the useful one here: it shows the Azdel substrate separated from the filon skin well beyond the impact mark. Resin injection and vacuum pressing flattened the panel, then the refinish was blended two panels wide so the repair did not read as a patch.

On a unibody there is no separate frame to pull, so the proof is a measurement sheet rather than a straight looking body. The before and after plates are the printouts, not the paint. This is the documentation an adjuster needs when a supplement adds structural hours to a scope that started as a bumper.

Appendix: questions and answers

Do I get copies of the photographs from my own repair?
Yes, the whole set, not a selection. Intake, teardown, measurement sheets where structural work was involved, and delivery frames. It is the same file the carrier receives. Owners who sell a unit later find that documented repair history is worth real money at resale, particularly on a coach with prior structural work.
Why is a photograph taken with the wall open worth more than a finished shot?
Because the finished shot cannot show whether the framing was replaced or painted over. An open wall photograph is the only record of substrate condition, insulation, wiring routing and structural members. Once the skin is back on, that information is gone permanently and no later inspection can recover it without cutting the wall again.
Are pictures from my phone good enough to start a claim?
They are good enough to start one and not good enough to finish one. Phone frames taken at the scene are valuable because of when they were taken. What they usually miss is scale, angle consistency and anything in shadow, which is exactly where fiberglass cracks and displaced fasteners live. We reshoot properly at intake.
Will my vehicle end up on this page without me knowing?
No. Publication is opt in, plates and identifying graphics are removed or the frame is not used, and commercial units are generally excluded entirely. If you would rather your unit never appear anywhere, say so at intake and it is recorded on the file. The internal documentation set is unaffected either way.
Can you look at photographs of work another shop did for me?
We can look, and we will tell you what the frames do and do not establish. What photographs cannot do is substitute for an in shop inspection, because bond failure, frame movement and wet substrate are found by tapping, measuring and probing. A review of images is a conversation, not an assessment of the unit.
