What you probably want to know
- 01Do I pay, or does my insurance? If a covered event caused it, the carrier does, minus your deductible. Wear does not qualify.
- 02Can my insurer make me use their shop? No. California Insurance Code section 758.5 puts that choice with you.
- 03What does an estimate cost?A written repair estimate is $150 and is credited in full against an authorized repair.
- 04What do you charge per hour?Body and paint $210, mechanical and electrical $260, diagnostics $285, detail $95.
- 05Will my 40 foot coach fit?Yes. The booth and bays take full length Class A units and 45 foot coaches.
- 06How long will you have my rig?Days for a seal or a panel. Weeks for structure, paint or a supplement cycle.
- 07Do you come to me?No. Every repair, estimate and diagnostic happens in shop in Yorba Linda.
- 08Do you bill my carrier directly?Yes, with sixteen carriers including Progressive, GEICO, State Farm and AAA SoCal.
- 09What goes wrong most on my vehicle? It depends entirely on how it was built. Pick your vehicle and we will tell you.
- 10What do insurers not tell owners?Twenty five things, documented, with what each one costs you and how it gets fixed.
Do I pay, or does my insurance?
The answer turns on one question: was the damage caused by an event, or by time? A tree limb through the roof in a Santa Ana blow is an event. A roof seam that let go after nine summers of ultraviolet is time. Carriers pay for the first and decline the second, and most of the friction in an RV claim comes from a repair that sits somewhere between the two.
Where it gets expensive for owners is the middle ground. A slide room that has been racking for two seasons finally tears a seal, water gets in during a storm, and the interior floor rots. The storm is covered. The rail wear that caused the rack is not. What the carrier ends up paying depends almost entirely on what was documented before anyone took a panel off, which is why we photograph and measure at teardown on every job whether a claim is open or not.
You pay your deductible once per claim. You pay for anything the adjuster classifies as maintenance. You pay for upgrades you choose along the way, and quite a few owners do choose them, because the wall is already open and the labor is already in the estimate. Everything else is a negotiation between the scope we write and the number the carrier's system produces, and that negotiation is the part we handle so you do not have to.
One thing worth knowing before you call anyone: in California an insurer may not require you to use a particular repair shop. They can recommend. They can tell you a shop is on their program. They cannot make the choice for you, and the shop that writes your estimate has a great deal of influence over what gets approved.

What your adjuster does, and what we do
| Stage | What your adjuster does | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| First contact | Opens the claim, assigns a number, often asks for photos from your phone | Tell you which photos actually matter and what a phone camera will miss |
| First estimate | Writes from photos or a walk around, using a system priced for automobiles | Write a scope from the vehicle itself, using RV construction and real labor times |
| Teardown | Usually not present. Approves or questions what comes back | Open the panel, measure, photograph and document what was hidden |
| Supplement | Reviews the addition, may push back on hours or on parts | Justify every added hour with a measurement and a photograph |
| Parts | May prefer aftermarket or used to control cost | State plainly where aftermarket is fine and where it will not bond or fit |
| Betterment | May apply a deduction for a part that ends up newer than it was | Argue it where the part failed as a result of the loss rather than from age |
| Total loss | Runs a book value that often ignores a custom build | Document solar, lithium, cabinetry and upfit so the number reflects the unit |
| Storage | Pays storage only while the claim is progressing | Keep the file moving so storage never becomes your problem |
| Rental or loss of use | Applies whatever the policy says, which on a business use vehicle is often nothing | Flag the exposure early so you can plan around the downtime |
| Final payment | Issues payment against the approved scope | Reconcile the approved scope against the work actually performed |
How a file moves through the shop
Intake and written scope
1 to 2 days
The unit comes in and gets walked, measured and photographed. You get a written repair estimate for $150, credited in full if you authorize the work. If a claim is open, the scope goes to your carrier in the format their system expects.
Approval and parts
2 days to 3 weeks
We handle the back and forth with the adjuster. Parts get ordered once the scope is agreed, and this is the step most likely to add days, because a Lippert rail or a discontinued fiberglass cap moves on the manufacturer's schedule and not on ours.
Teardown and supplement
1 to 4 days
Panels come off and the real condition becomes visible. Anything hidden gets measured, photographed and written as a supplement before it is repaired. Claims stall here more than anywhere else, which is why the documentation is done properly the first time.
Structure, then body
3 days to 4 weeks
Frame and structural work is completed and verified against factory measurements before any cosmetic work starts. Doing it in the other order produces a unit that looks right and is not, and that is a repair that comes back.
Paint and refinish
2 days to 2 weeks
The unit goes into the downdraft booth. Color is matched with a spectrophotometer and confirmed with a spray out card against the actual panel, because a twelve year old coach does not match its own paint code.
Reassembly, test and delivery
2 to 5 days
Everything goes back together, systems are run, slides are cycled and water tested where relevant, and the unit is detailed. You get the file: photographs, measurements, the approved scope and what was actually done.
File notes: Rancho Santa Margarita, California
Rancho Santa Margarita sends us a particular mix of work, and it is not the mix a coastal city sends. The canyon roads out toward Trabuco and the climb up Santa Margarita Parkway produce side scrapes and mirror strikes on long units whose drivers underestimated a turn radius. The 241 throws debris. In a dry year the shoulder gravel on that stretch does real damage to lower fiberglass and to holding tank shrouds, and it does it at highway speed, which means the impact usually goes deeper than the gelcoat.
Then there is wind. When the Santa Anas come down through the canyons, awnings that were left out overnight do not survive, and the failure is rarely just fabric. An awning that catches a gust and folds takes the arm with it, and often takes a section of sidewall where the rail is mounted. We see a cluster of those calls every year within about a week of the first serious blow.
The third pattern is storage. A large share of units in the area live in a storage lot rather than beside the house, which changes what breaks. Backing damage at the rear cap is common. So is a roof that went two years without anyone standing on it to look, because it is not in the driveway where you walk past it. By the time a stain shows up on an interior ceiling panel, the water has usually been getting in for a while.
Getting a unit here is straightforward. The 241 to the 91 is the run we recommend for anything over thirty feet, because it avoids the surface street turns through Anaheim Hills that catch long overhangs. It is roughly twenty minutes without traffic. If the unit is not drivable, that is a tow, and depending on your policy the tow may be covered.
Appendix: questions we get most
- Can my insurance company require me to use their repair shop?
- No. California Insurance Code section 758.5 prohibits an insurer from requiring a specific shop. They may suggest one and may tell you it is on their direct repair program, but the choice of who performs the work belongs to you as the policyholder.
- What does it cost to get an estimate at OCRV Center?
- A written repair estimate is $150 and is credited in full against an authorized repair, so if you proceed you pay for it once. An in depth diagnostic runs $285 per hour with a one hour minimum, also credited. Every estimate is performed in shop.
- Do you offer mobile RV repair or come to my location?
- No. All work is performed in shop at the Yorba Linda facility, where the lift capacity, frame rack, paint booth and scan tooling are. Structural, paint and slide work cannot legally or physically be done properly in a driveway.
- How large a vehicle can you actually take in?
- Full length Class A coaches up to 45 feet, tandem axle fifth wheels, box trucks, transit buses and fire apparatus. The 35,000 square foot floor is what makes that possible, along with a booth sized for full coach refinish rather than for automobiles.
- How long will my vehicle be in your shop?
- A seal replacement or a single panel is a few days. Structural work, a full repaint or anything that runs through a supplement cycle is measured in weeks. Parts availability is the largest variable and we disclose backorder status at authorization.
- Which insurance carriers do you bill directly?
- Sixteen, including Progressive, GEICO, State Farm, AAA SoCal, Mercury, Allstate, American Family, Wawanesa, National General, CSAA, Foremost, Liberty Mutual and Tesla. Direct billing means you are not fronting the repair and waiting on reimbursement. If your carrier is not on that list we still write the claim, document the damage and bill them the same way, so bring the claim number either way.
- What will my policy almost certainly not pay for?
- Wear. A rail that wore out over eight seasons, a roof that chalked from ultraviolet exposure, seals that took a compression set from age. Those are maintenance items. Damage that follows a covered event is a different conversation entirely.
- Do you work on vans and RVs with custom solar and lithium builds?
- Yes, and documenting that build before teardown is the single most valuable thing you can do. Carriers routinely value a converted van at the price of a bare cargo van because nobody photographed the array, the bank or the cabinetry beforehand.
