A vending truck is a workplace with wheels under it, and that means two sets of rules apply at the same time. The DMV and the CHP care about the vehicle. The Orange County Health Care Agency, a building department or a state licensing board cares about what happens inside it. A body repair that satisfies the first and ignores the second produces a truck that looks correct and cannot legally open.

Two authorities, one repair order
The estimate on a vending build has to satisfy two readers who never speak to each other. A carrier or an owner wants to know what the body work costs. An inspector wants to know that the floor is still coved, the hood clearances are unchanged, the LP locker still vents outward and the sink is still plumbed the way the approved plan says. Both readings come out of the same repair, and only one of them is visible from the outside.
So we scope in two layers. The body layer covers panels, structure, refinish and graphics. The compliance layer covers every surface, penetration and fixture the repair touches, with a note on how it is being restored to the approved condition. Operators who have been through a failed re-inspection recognize this immediately. Operators who have not usually ask why the estimate is longer than they expected.
Which build pays your bills
The nav labels here all start with the same word, which hides how different these units are. A food truck is a commercial kitchen with a hood, LP and a grease problem. A grooming van is a wet room with a tub, a water heater and a drain through the floor. A command center is a communications platform with a mast through the roof. The repair each one needs has almost nothing in common with the others beyond the shell.

Every penetration is a compliance item
Count the holes in a food truck body. An exhaust hood and its curb. A condenser. A fresh water fill, a waste drain, a grey tank vent. LP lines from a vented locker. A shore power inlet. A generator exhaust. Roof and floor penetrations for wiring. Each one is a designed opening in a body that also has to keep water out, and each one is something an inspector can look at and ask about.
That is why the failures on this family cluster at penetrations rather than in the middle of panels. The pattern we see most is grease and water tracking down from a hood curb, which stains the ceiling, saturates the wall behind it and eventually breaks the coved floor seam at the base of that wall. Repairing the ceiling panel without cutting back to sound material and restoring the coving means the same finding reappears at the next inspection.
Before you proceed
A stained ceiling panel next to a hood curb is rarely just a panel. Grease and water have usually reached the wall cavity, and the coved floor seam at the bottom of that wall is where an inspector will find it.
Downtime is measured in service days
For a route operator, downtime costs a route. For a vending operator it costs a booked event, and events do not reschedule to suit a repair. A caterer with three weekends committed and a damaged serving side is in a different situation from a fleet with twelve identical vans, and pretending otherwise produces a schedule nobody can use.
We plan around the calendar you already have. Tell us the committed dates at intake and we work backwards: photograph and scope immediately, order the serving window, the awning assembly or the panel while the unit is still working, and take the truck in when the parts are on the shelf. Where the damage is not safety related and the schedule is tight, we will sometimes sequence a temporary weathertight repair first and the permanent one after your season.
The repair has to pass a re-inspection
Any repair that opens a wall, a floor or a roof inside a permitted unit puts the affected area back in front of whoever permits it. The specifics vary by build type and jurisdiction, but the principle does not: surfaces have to remain smooth, cleanable and non absorbent, coving has to be continuous, LP has to remain vented outward, and plumbing has to match the approved layout rather than a convenient alternative.
We work to that standard as a matter of course and we document it, because an operator standing in front of an inspector benefits from photographs of what was behind the panel and a written description of the materials used. On builds where a repair genuinely changes an approved layout, we say so before authorization and let you talk to the agency first. Discovering it afterward is the expensive order to do things in.
Documenting a build worth more than the truck
A ten year old step van is worth very little. The same van with a permitted kitchen, a hood, a fire suppression system, tanks, a generator and stainless casework is worth several times that, and the gap between those two numbers is the single most common problem on claims in this family. A carrier that values a vending unit as a used step van has valued the wrong asset.
The fix is documentation created before anything happens, not after. Photograph the interior from every corner, keep the build invoices, keep the plan check approval and the equipment list, and note serial numbers on the hood, the suppression system and the generator. We photograph and inventory during teardown too, but our photographs start after the damage. Yours can start today, and that is worth more.

Body and interior finish hours bill at $210. Water, tank, generator and 120 volt work is $260. A $45 flat hazmat and disposal charge applies whenever refrigerant, LP or shop chemicals are handled, which on a kitchen or a grooming build is most visits. Paint supplies are $55 per paint hour, body supplies $5 per body hour, and tax applies to parts and materials only.
Graphics deserve a separate mention because on this family they are the brand rather than decoration. The word mobile describes your business, not our service
The word mobile in these thirteen names describes what you do, not how we work. We do not run a mobile repair operation and there is no roadside program. Every unit is repaired inside the building on La Palma Avenue in Yorba Linda, because coving a floor needs a controlled temperature, welding stainless near an LP line needs the line isolated and purged properly, and refinish needs the booth.
Delivery works best if you strip the perishables and the removable equipment first. Empty the tanks, clear the reach ins, take the cash box and the point of sale hardware, and leave the keys to every locking compartment. Tell us the date you need it back on the road at intake rather than at the halfway point, because that date determines the order we do the work in.

- Will a body repair send my food truck back through plan check?
- Only if the repair changes an approved layout. Restoring a panel, a floor or a penetration to its permitted condition normally does not, and we document the materials and the method so you can show that. If a repair genuinely alters the approved plan, we say so before authorization so you can speak to the agency first.
- How long is a vending unit down for a hood area repair?
- Typically one to two weeks once parts are on hand, because grease and water tracking from a hood curb usually reaches the wall cavity and the coved floor seam below it. Cutting back to sound material, restoring the wall and re-coving the floor is the bulk of the time. We order before teardown so the unit is not waiting.
- Can you replace a serving window and its frame?
- Yes, and the frame is usually the real job. A distorted opening means the body flexed or took a strike, so we measure the aperture, correct the structure, then fit the window rather than forcing a new frame into a twisted hole. The interior finish and any coving disturbed at the sill is restored as part of it.
- Do you repair the cooking equipment as well as the body?
- No. Ranges, fryers, refrigeration and fire suppression systems go to their own certified service providers, and suppression in particular has to stay within its certification. We handle the body, the structure, the floor and coving, the penetrations, the tanks, the 120 volt distribution and the generator compartment, and we coordinate sequencing so the unit goes down once.
- What paperwork does a health inspector want after a repair?
- In practice, evidence that surfaces and penetrations were restored to the permitted condition. We provide photographs of what was behind the panel, a description of the materials used on floors, walls and coving, and a note on any penetration that was resealed. That package answers most questions before they turn into a second visit.
- Is the interior build covered on a commercial auto policy?
- Sometimes, and often for far less than it cost. A permitted kitchen, hood, suppression system, tanks and stainless casework can be worth several times the shell. Keep build invoices, the plan check approval, an equipment list with serial numbers and photographs from every corner, because that documentation is what separates the two valuations.
