Roadtrek Repair: Molded Roofs, Van Shells and a Parts Gap
Written by RV Systems Lead, RV Systems and Electrical Lead, OCRV Center. Reviewed by Claims Coordinator
In shortRoadtrek splits into a supported van chassis and a conversion whose parts history includes a 2019 bankruptcy. Older molded raised roofs are the item nobody can simply order.
Can a Roadtrek still be repaired after the ownership changes?
Yes. The van underneath is a Ram, Mercedes or Chevrolet with full local support, and current Roadtrek conversion parts come from Ontario. Our Yorba Linda shop repairs molded roofs and conversion structure for Rancho Santa Margarita owners where a part is no longer available.

Roadtrek has been through more corporate turbulence than any brand in this catalog, and owners feel it in exactly one place: parts for the conversion. The van under the conversion has never been affected, because Ram, Mercedes and Chevrolet do not care who owns a converter.
So a Roadtrek estimate separates cleanly. Sheet metal, glass, lighting and structural correction on the van follow the chassis maker. Roof moldings, cabinetry, electrical systems and interior fittings follow whatever the conversion side can supply, and on older units that sometimes means we build it.
The molded raised roof and where it cracks
Older 190 Popular and 210 Versatile units carry a Roadtrek molded fiberglass roof bonded and fastened to a cut van shell. That roof is what gives the van standing height, and the mounting flange around its perimeter is where stress concentrates. Cracks appear along the flange, usually at the front corners where wind load is highest.
Repair is laminate work with the interior headliner removed for access, followed by resealing the flange properly rather than adding sealant over a crack. These roofs are brand specific moldings, so replacement is rarely realistic and repair is the practical path. Done properly it lasts.
High output charging and why documentation matters
Roadtrek pushed hard on underhood generation and large battery banks well before it became common, and some units carry high output alternators, lithium banks and inverter systems that are not standard anywhere else. Those systems are valuable and they are frequently undocumented on a claim.
We photograph and list the electrical build at intake, isolate and verify it before any panel comes off, and note capacities in the file. A carrier who has no record of a lithium bank will value the van as a stripped conversion, and recovering that after teardown is much harder than establishing it on day one.
The van half is completely normal
A Zion is a Ram ProMaster. A CS Adventurous is a Mercedes Sprinter. A Chase is a Chevrolet Express. Collision work on any of them follows the chassis maker's procedure with factory control points, published dimensions and parts from a dealer network that stocks them for commercial fleets.
That is worth emphasizing because owners of a brand with a difficult corporate history often assume the whole vehicle is orphaned. It is not. The majority of the sheet metal, glass and structural work on a damaged Roadtrek is ordinary van repair with ordinary parts availability.
Cross border parts and realistic timelines
Current conversion parts come from Ontario, which adds freight and customs to the schedule. Units from the years around the 2019 collapse are the hardest, because inventory from that period was disrupted and some items simply are not available under any number.
We check before quoting, and where a conversion part cannot be had we quote fabrication instead. Cabinet components, brackets, trim and mounting hardware are all reproducible here. What we will not do is put a coach on the schedule while pretending a part is coming.
Rates and our standing
Van body, roof laminate and refinish work bills at $210 per hour. Electrical, charging, appliance and plumbing work bills at $260. Diagnostic time on an electrical fault nobody has isolated is $285 per hour with a one hour minimum, credited against an authorized repair. A written estimate is $150 on the same terms.
OCRV Center is an independent shop with no dealer agreement or affiliation with Roadtrek or any of its former or current owners. All work is performed in shop at Yorba Linda. A Class B fits any bay in the building, which makes these among the easiest units to schedule.
Roadtrek lines we work on
- Zion and Zion SRT on the Ram ProMaster 3500
- Simplicity and Play on the ProMaster platform
- CS Adventurous and SS Agile on the Mercedes Sprinter
- 190 Popular and 210 Versatile with the molded raised roof
- Chase on the Chevrolet Express 3500
- E-trek and related builds with high output charging systems
Parts. Roadtrek is built in Kitchener, Ontario. The 2019 collapse of its former parent left a gap in support for units from the years around it, and current era parts now come from the Rapido owned operation in Ontario, which means cross border freight. Van chassis parts from Ram, Mercedes and Chevrolet are locally supported. The molded raised roof on older 190 and 210 units is a Roadtrek specific mold.
What we see on this brand
- Raised fiberglass roof cracking at the mounting flange
- Sealant failure where the molded roof meets the van shell
- High output charging and inverter system faults
- Rear door and hinge alignment after a low speed impact
- Cabinetry mount loosening from road vibration
Appendix: questions and answers
- Can a cracked Roadtrek raised roof be repaired?
- Yes, and it usually has to be, since the roof is a brand specific molding. We remove headliner for access, laminate the crack from both sides where possible, and reseal the mounting flange properly instead of adding sealant over the failure. Repaired correctly it does not come back.
- Are parts available for a Roadtrek built around 2019?
- Some, not all. That period was disrupted by the collapse of the former parent company, and certain conversion items are not available under any number. Van chassis parts are unaffected. Where a conversion part is gone, we quote fabrication rather than leaving your van waiting for nothing.
- How do I make sure my lithium system is valued in a claim?
- Document it before anything happens to the van, and let us document it again at intake. We photograph and list capacities, inverter and charging equipment in the file. A carrier with no record of the system will value the van as a stripped conversion, which is very hard to reverse later.
- Is the van itself hard to get parts for?
- Not at all. A Zion is a Ram ProMaster, a CS is a Mercedes Sprinter, a Chase is a Chevrolet Express, and all three are supported by dealer networks that stock parts for commercial fleets. Most of the sheet metal and structural work on a damaged Roadtrek is ordinary van repair.
- My cabinets have worked loose. Is that normal?
- It is common on any van conversion, because cabinetry is fastened to a shell that flexes constantly. The fix is remounting into sound structure with proper backing rather than driving longer screws into the same holes. It is mechanical work and usually less than a day.
