That has a direct consequence for collision work: you cannot correct one area in isolation, because pulling a rear quarter moves the door aperture, and the door aperture is how you find out whether the pull was correct.

So the work is measurement led. ## Thin galvanized steel does not take filler

The body sides on a modern van span several feet with almost no interior support and measure well under a millimeter thick. That is why the vehicle is light, and it is also why a parking lot dent is a larger job than the dent suggests. Push it out and the panel oil cans, meaning it snaps between two stable shapes and will not sit flat. Fill it and the filler cracks the first genuinely hot week in September.

The manufacturer procedure calls for sectioning at a defined seam, welding in new material, and restoring the corrosion protection on both sides of the weld. That is more hours than an owner expects and it is the only repair that stays flat. The failures follow logically. Fastener holes elongate into keyholes. Roof penetrations start weeping because the panel flexes around each screw. Liftgate mounts crack the rear frame extension. When we repair any of these we add backing that reaches structure rather than replacing the fastener with a larger one, and we reseal every penetration properly rather than laying a bead over the old one.

## The high cube exception

Everything above assumes a unibody, and one member of this family is not one. A high cube van is a cutaway chassis with a separate box bonded and bolted to a steel subframe, which makes it body on frame in the same way a box truck is. The cab and the box are two objects, they move independently, and the gap between them is a designed joint rather than a defect.

That distinction changes the diagnosis. A widening box to cab gap on a high cube is usually reporting subframe or mount movement, not a bent shell, and the correct sequence is to check the body mounts and the frame before touching the box itself. Owners who have been quoted unibody straightening on a high cube have usually been quoted for the wrong vehicle.

## Fleet color across a mixed age fleet

A fleet in white is not a fleet in one color. A 2019 van and a 2024 van in the same nominal white have different pigment loads, different film builds and five years of separate ultraviolet exposure, and the older one has faded toward whatever its clear did in the sun. Matching a repaired panel to the paint code produces a panel that is correct and visibly wrong next to the rest of the van.

We read the actual vehicle with a spectrophotometer at three points along the affected side, spray out cards, and set a blend boundary where a body line allows it.
