Additional services group custom fabrication, detailing and reconditioning, and inspection and estimating. They sit together because each one crosses department lines rather than belonging to one. Most category pages on this site describe a department. This one describes a decision. Fabrication, detailing and inspection do not share a crew, a bay or a rate, and pretending otherwise would be the kind of tidy nonsense that makes a website less useful than a phone call. They are grouped because each of them serves the whole building rather than one part of it.

That is worth reading before you pick one, because the three are used very differently. Fabrication makes something that does not exist. Detailing recovers a surface that has not failed. Inspection buys an answer rather than a repair. Same site, same building, three genuinely separate transactions.

## A grouping rather than a department

The other five categories on this site correspond to a place in the building and a rate. This one does not, and saying so is more useful than inventing a shared identity. Fabrication works out of the welding and forming area. Detailing works out of enclosed bays with controlled lighting. Inspection works wherever the unit happens to be, using instruments borrowed from three other departments.

What they share is a relationship to everything else. A structural repair may need a bracket that no longer exists, which is fabrication. A refinish leaves a finish that needs correction, which is detail. A claim needs a documented scope before anything is authorized, which is inspection. All three are called on by the other departments as often as by owners directly.

## The fabrication bench and what comes off it

The metal side carries a Miller Dynasty 280 TIG for aluminum and stainless and a Millermatic 252 MIG for steel, a press brake and shear for forming plate and sheet, a tube bender and notcher for rack and cage work, and plasma cutting from templates taken off the actual vehicle rather than from a drawing. A four post lift and mobile column lifts give underbody access while fabricating.

What that produces is mostly things nobody sells: a bracket for a generator that has been repowered, a bumper for a coach whose manufacturer closed, a storage bay in a space that was empty, a mount that carries a load into structure instead of into skin. Powder coating goes to a dedicated finisher, and refinishing happens in our own booth.

## Detail is a rate and a set of bays, not a car wash

The detail rate of $95 per hour is the lowest posted rate in the building and it buys a specific set of conditions: indoor bays with controlled lighting and no direct sun on a panel, a deionized water rinse so nothing dries onto a finish as spotting, Rupes and Flex machines with a full pad range, and scaffold access so an upper sidewall is worked properly rather than reached at arm's length.

It also buys measurement. Gloss meter readings are recorded before and after on corrected panels, which turns a subjective claim into a number. That matters most on oxidation removal and gelcoat restoration, where the honest answer is sometimes that a surface is past correcting and belongs in the booth instead.

## Inspection and estimating is billed work

Every estimate, scan, inspection and claim assessment in this building is charged for, and each of those charges credits in full against an authorized repair. A written repair estimate is $150. Fault tracing and module work is $285 per hour with a one hour minimum. An in shop pre purchase inspection runs $400 to $1,200 depending on the size of the unit and how many systems it has.

Charging for it is what makes it worth having. A buyer inspection that takes four hours on the lift with moisture mapping, a structural comparison against factory data and a generator held at rated output on a load bank is a genuine piece of work, and it regularly saves a buyer more than the whole build cost of the unit they were about to purchase.

## The three services in this group

Custom fabrication is where a job goes when the part does not exist or the load path needs changing. Bumpers and racks, storage builds, one off modifications, and structural welding and metal work all sit under it, and it is used constantly by the collision and structural side rather than only by owners.

Detailing and reconditioning covers full interior and exterior detail, oxidation removal and gelcoat restoration, ceramic coating and headlight restoration. Inspection and estimating covers the written estimate, in depth diagnostic and scan work, in shop pre purchase inspections and insurance claim damage documentation.

## Three rates on one invoice

Because these services sit on different rate centers, a single job involving two of them shows two rates. A fabricated bracket finished and then the surrounding area polished appears as fabrication hours at $210 and detail hours at $95, not as an average of the two. Parts follow the standard markup policy and sales tax applies to parts and materials only.

Deposits work the same way here as everywhere else: fifty percent at authorization on jobs over $2,000 and a further twenty five percent when parts arrive on jobs over $10,000. Fabrication projects reach those thresholds more often than owners expect, because a one off build is mostly labor and the labor is committed early.

## How these three feed the rest of the building

Inspection comes first on nearly every job on this site, because a written scope is what everything else is authorized against. Fabrication arrives in the middle, whenever a repair needs a part that cannot be bought. Detail comes last, either as the final step before delivery or as the whole job when a surface is tired rather than damaged.

That order is also the useful way to choose between them. If you do not yet know what is wrong, buy the inspection. If you know what is wrong and the part does not exist, that is fabrication. If nothing is broken and the vehicle simply looks its age, start with detail and keep the booth out of it.
