# How Rancho Santa Margarita Owners Get a Unit to Our Yorba Linda Floor

> There is **one shop and one address**, at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda. Rancho Santa Margarita is the area served, roughly **twenty minutes** north on the 241 to the 91.

## Where is the shop, and how far is it from Rancho Santa Margarita?

The facility sits at 23281 La Palma Ave in Yorba Linda, California. From Rancho Santa Margarita the run is the 241 north to the 91 west, about twenty minutes without traffic, and that route is the one to take for any unit over thirty feet because it avoids tight surface turns.

- One location only, at 23281 La Palma Ave, Yorba Linda, CA 92887
- Recommended run for long units is the 241 north to the 91 west

This is the only geography page on the site, and it covers one service area rather than a list of towns. Rancho Santa Margarita is where most of our recreational work originates. Yorba Linda is where the building is. Nothing gets repaired anywhere in between, so the only question that matters here is logistics: which road, how long, and what happens if the unit will not move.

Owners underestimate this part and it costs them a day. A thirty eight foot fifth wheel behind a dually is not a car trip, and the difference between two plausible routes is the difference between arriving at nine and arriving at noon with a scraped rear cap.

## The run north, and why it is the 241

Take the 241 north out of Rancho Santa Margarita and stay on it to the 91 west. It is a toll road, it is straight, the grades are gentle, and the interchange onto the 91 is a long sweeping ramp that a long trailer takes without swinging into an adjacent lane. From the 91 the exit puts you onto La Palma Ave with two wide signalized turns and no residential streets.

The tempting alternative is to cut across through Anaheim Hills on surface streets. Do not, at least not with anything over thirty feet. The turns there are ninety degree signalized intersections with short receiving lanes and raised medians, and a long rear overhang tracks inside its own turn radius. Every scraped rear skirt we have repaired on an arriving unit came off a curb on a route like that.

In lighter traffic the drive is roughly twenty minutes. Between about seven and nine in the morning the 91 west backs up, so if you are bringing a unit in for a morning intake, either leave before six thirty or aim for the middle of the day. Nobody enjoys idling a diesel pusher in a stopped lane, and there is no reason to.

> **note:** Coming in for the first time: park on the street side of the lot rather than pulling into a bay. The counter will tell you where to stage. Long units get positioned once, not three times.

## One address, and what that means for you

There is a single facility and it is the one in Yorba Linda. No satellite yard, no drop lot in south county, no second shop under another name. Every estimate, every diagnostic, every teardown and every refinish happens on that floor, because the frame rack is bolted to it and the booth is built into it. We do not send a technician out to a driveway, a storage lot or a campground, and there is no roadside option at any price.

The practical effect is that a repair here begins with a trip. That is a real cost in your time and we do not pretend otherwise. What you get in exchange is a shop that can put a forty five foot coach on measured anchoring, verify structure against factory dimensions, and then refinish the same unit in one piece without a joint down the side.

## When the unit cannot be driven or towed by you

Plenty of units arrive on a truck. A slide that will not retract, a coach with a bent tie rod, a trailer with a torn off A frame, a fifth wheel whose axle took the hit: none of those should be driven anywhere. Call before you arrange the tow, because the operator matters more than the price. A standard flatbed with a steep approach angle will drag a long rear overhang and add damage on the way here.

Ask for a heavy duty operator who has moved recreational vehicles, and ask specifically about approach angle and tie down points. On a fifth wheel the correct pull is from the pin box, not from the frame rails behind the axles. Whether the tow is covered depends on your policy, and if a claim is open we will tell your adjuster the tow was necessary and why, in writing, at intake.

Once the unit lands it gets staged and photographed before anything is touched. That set of photographs is the baseline for the whole file, and on a towed arrival it also documents transport damage separately from the original loss, which is a distinction carriers care about a great deal.

## What this area sends us, specifically

The canyon side of Rancho Santa Margarita produces a recognizable class of damage. Trabuco Canyon Road and the climb toward O'Neill Regional Park are narrow, crowned and lined with rock cut on one side, and long units come back with side scrapes at mid coach height, mirror strikes and torn lower skirts. Antonio Parkway and the stretch past Plano Trabuco add another version of the same thing at the intersections, where a tight right turn puts a rear overhang over a curb.

Toll road debris is its own category. The 241 shoulder throws gravel at highway speed, and that impact energy goes past the gelcoat into the laminate underneath. A stone bruise on a lower sidewall that looks like a chip often has a coin sized area of separated bond behind it, which is why we tap the surrounding panel rather than filling the visible mark.

Then there is storage. A large share of units around Rancho Santa Margarita Lake and up the Santa Margarita Parkway corridor live in a lot instead of beside the house. Two things follow. Backing damage at the rear cap is routine, since the pull in slots are tight and mirrors do not show a bumper. And roofs go unseen for years, because nobody walks past a roof that is not in the driveway. The stain on the interior ceiling panel is usually the first notice.

## Santa Ana season, and the calls that follow it

When the Santa Anas run down the canyons the awning calls arrive in clusters, usually inside a week of the first serious blow. The failure is rarely limited to fabric. An awning that catches a gust folds the arm, and a folded arm levers the mounting rail away from the sidewall, which opens a water path along the entire run. We see Carefree and Dometic assemblies come in where the fabric is intact and the rail has pulled six fasteners out of the wall.

The other wind failure is roof membrane at the leading edge. A lifted lap sealant bead lets air under an EPDM sheet, and once the sheet balloons at speed the seam opens. If your unit sat out through a wind event, the fifteen minutes it takes to look at the front roof seam and the awning rail is the cheapest inspection in the calendar, and it is one you can do yourself with a ladder.

## What to have with you at intake

Bring the claim number if a claim is open, plus the adjuster's name and direct line. Bring the registration and, on a towable, the tow vehicle if the damage involves the hitch. Bring any photographs you took at the scene, even bad ones, because a blurry phone picture taken before anything moved is evidence and a perfect picture taken a week later is not.

Clear the unit of anything you need in the next month. Repairs run days on a seal and weeks on structure or paint, and a coach in the booth is not somewhere you can retrieve a passport from. Empty the fresh water and the waste tanks where the repair touches plumbing, and tell us at the counter if there is LP in the tanks, because that changes how the unit is staged.

Expect the written repair estimate to be $150, credited in full against an authorized repair. If the fault is something nobody has been able to name yet, that is diagnostic time instead at $285 per hour with a one hour minimum, also credited. Both are billed. Neither is a walk around in the parking lot.

## Questions and answers

### Is the toll road actually worth paying for on the way to you?

For anything over thirty feet, yes. The 241 removes every tight surface turn between south county and the 91, and one curbed rear skirt costs far more than a book of tolls. In a car it hardly matters. Behind a fifth wheel it is the difference between an easy drive and a repair you did not plan on.

### Do you only take work from Rancho Santa Margarita?

No. Rancho Santa Margarita is the area we write about because it sends the most recreational work, but the shop takes units from across Orange County and beyond. What does not change is the address. Everything is repaired at the Yorba Linda facility regardless of where the owner drove in from.

### Can I leave the unit before you open?

Call first. Unstaged units block bay access and a coach parked in the wrong place at seven in the morning delays three other jobs. If an early arrival is the only workable option we will tell you exactly where to put it and what to leave at the counter, and intake paperwork gets completed when the office opens.

### Will my policy pay for the tow to get here?

Often, if towing is on the policy and the unit is not drivable because of a covered loss. Coverage limits vary and a recreational tow can exceed a passenger car limit quickly. Ask your carrier before you book, and if a claim is already open we document at intake why the unit could not be driven.

### How long will my unit sit on your lot before work starts?

On a straight repair, days. When a claim is open, the answer depends on approval rather than on us, and that is the honest version. We photograph and scope immediately so the file can move, but no panel comes off an insured unit until the scope is agreed, because unauthorized teardown is how owners end up paying out of pocket.

### Is there a south county location closer to me?

There is not, and there is no plan for one. A second address would mean either duplicating a frame rack and a paint booth or opening a yard that can only take in paperwork. Neither helps you. One floor with all of the equipment on it is why a forty five foot coach can be measured and refinished in one piece.
