# Why OCRV Center Does Not Offer Mobile RV Repair, and What to Do Instead

> Structural, refinish and slide work cannot happen in a driveway. A **booth cured finish**, a **bolted frame rack** and EPA containment are physical requirements rather than preferences. The unit comes to Yorba Linda.

## Does OCRV Center offer mobile RV repair in Rancho Santa Margarita?

No. OCRV Center performs every repair, estimate and diagnostic in shop at Yorba Linda, and there is no on site option for Rancho Santa Margarita owners. Booth cured refinish, bolted frame anchoring, LP certification and EPA containment cannot be reproduced in a driveway or a storage lot.

- We do not offer mobile repair and there is no roadside option
- Refinish requires a filtered downdraft booth and controlled cure
- Structural pulls require anchoring bolted to a shop floor
- Chemical and refrigerant capture is a licence condition, not a choice

This page exists because the search that brought you here is a reasonable one and the honest answer is no. Plenty of RV work genuinely can be done where the unit sits, and there are operators who do it well. None of the work this shop performs falls into that category, and the reasons are physical and regulatory rather than commercial.

What follows is why, in enough detail that you can judge it for yourself, and then the part that is actually useful: what to do when the unit cannot be driven, how the tow works, and the route in from Rancho Santa Margarita.

## Refinish cannot cure outside a booth

A modern two stage or three stage finish is not paint drying in air. It is a catalysed chemical reaction with a temperature window, a humidity window and an airborne particle tolerance measured in microns, and it has to hold all three from the moment the gun opens until the clear has flashed. A downdraft booth exists to control exactly that: filtered air moving in one direction, heated cure, and no dust arriving from anywhere.

Outdoors none of that is available. Dust settles into wet clear and stays there permanently. Direct sun flashes the surface before the film has levelled, which produces solvent pop and orange peel. Overspray drifts onto whatever is downwind, which on a residential street is your neighbour's car. A coach sprayed in a driveway looks acceptable for a season and then fails at the edges, and it cannot be corrected without stripping back.

Our booth is 60 feet long, which means a full length coach goes in as one piece and comes out with no joint down the side. That is not a convenience. A repaint done in sections has a witness line at every break, and there is no location outside a building where a forty five foot unit can be sprayed as a single panel run.

## Structural correction needs anchoring bolted to a floor

Pulling a frame rail or a unibody control point back into position takes tens of thousands of pounds of force applied in a controlled direction, and that force has to react against something. In a shop it reacts against anchoring bolted into a reinforced concrete floor, with the unit clamped at manufacturer specified points. On a driveway there is nothing to pull against, and improvising a reaction point either moves the wrong part of the vehicle or fails suddenly, which is how people get hurt.

Verification is the second half of the problem. Structural work is proven by measurement against published factory dimensions, before and after, printed and filed. That measurement system lives on a level, surveyed floor. A driveway with a two percent crossfall will produce readings that look like frame damage on a perfectly straight coach, which means an off site measurement is not evidence of anything.

## LP and systems work has certification conditions attached

Propane work carries certification requirements, and the test that proves a system is sound is a manometer held at a stable pressure for a defined period with the appliances isolated and then reintroduced one at a time. That takes a controlled setting, ventilation, and the ability to shut the whole thing down safely if it fails. A leak found in a driveway next to a house is a hazard nobody should be creating deliberately.

Slide and appliance work has a quieter version of the same problem. Pulling a slide room out of a wall requires the room to be supported from above while the drive is unloaded, which means overhead capacity. Refrigerant recovery on an air conditioner requires capture equipment, because venting refrigerant is illegal. Neither of those fits in a toolbox, and a technician who arrives without them ends up doing a partial job and calling it complete.

## Containment is a licence condition

The refinish side of this shop operates under EPA CAL000367879, and the facility under BAR ARD00288521. Those licences carry obligations about where coating overspray goes, how solvent is captured, how wash water is contained and how waste is manifested for disposal. Sanding residue from a fiberglass panel, stripped coating, used thinner and captured refrigerant all have a documented destination.

A driveway has a storm drain at the end of it. Anything that runs off a unit being sanded or washed on a residential street goes into that drain and then into a watershed, which is precisely the outcome the regulation exists to prevent. The $45 flat hazmat and disposal charge on your invoice is the visible edge of that system, and it cannot be replicated at a customer address.

## What to do when the unit will not move

Tow it in, and call before you book the tow rather than after. The operator matters more than the price does. Ask for a heavy duty operator who has moved recreational vehicles, and ask specifically about approach angle and tie down points, because a standard flatbed with a steep ramp will drag a long rear overhang and add damage on the way here. On a fifth wheel the correct pull is from the pin box, not the frame rails behind the axles.

Whether the tow is paid by your policy depends on your coverage, and recreational tow costs exceed passenger car limits quickly. Ask your carrier before booking. If a claim is already open, we document at intake why the unit could not be driven, which is the note that supports a towing line on the file. Units arriving on a truck are staged and photographed before anything is touched, which also separates transport damage from the original loss.

If the unit is drivable but you are nervous about the trip, say so on the phone. There is a difference between a coach with a scraped skirt and a coach with a slide that may not stay retracted, and for the second one there are things worth strapping before you set off. That conversation costs nothing and it has prevented several units from arriving worse than they left.

## The run in from Rancho Santa Margarita

The 241 north to the 91 west, then off onto La Palma Ave. Roughly twenty minutes in light traffic. It is the route to take with anything over thirty feet because the interchange is a long sweeping ramp rather than a signalized turn, and the last two turns onto La Palma are wide and signalized with no residential streets involved.

Do not cut across through Anaheim Hills on surface streets with a long unit. The intersections there have short receiving lanes and raised medians, a long rear overhang tracks inside its own radius, and the curbed skirts we repair on arriving units almost all came from that decision. Between seven and nine in the morning the 91 backs up, so aim for mid morning if you can.

## What we can do without the unit here

Triage, and it is worth more than it sounds. Send photographs and a short clip through the quote page and you will get told which department the job belongs to, roughly what an inspection would be looking for, and whether the symptom you are describing usually turns out to be the thing you think it is. That conversation regularly saves owners a trip in the wrong direction, and it costs you nothing but the time to take the photographs.

What that cannot be is an assessment or a price. Bond failure is found by tapping, wet substrate by probing, frame movement by measuring, and none of those travel through a lens. Every estimate is written with the unit on the floor, billed at $150, credited in full against an authorized repair. A number quoted over the phone on a delamination job is a guess, and guesses on this work are always low.

## Questions and answers

### Is there any situation where you would come out to a unit?

No, and that includes large fleet accounts. There is no exception because the constraint is not scheduling, it is equipment bolted to a floor and licence conditions about containment. What we do instead for fleets is stage units so an agreed maximum are down at once, which addresses the underlying problem of availability.

### My awning failed in a storage lot and I cannot retract it. Who helps?

For securing it well enough to travel, a local operator who does on site work, or often a storage facility maintenance contact. Strapping a folded arm so the unit can be driven is a legitimate field task. The repair itself, meaning rail reset, sidewall fastener repair and fabric replacement, happens here with the unit in a bay.

### Will somebody come and write an estimate where the unit is parked?

No. Estimates are written in shop, because the tap test that finds bond failure past the visible damage and the measurements that establish structure both require the unit here. A written repair estimate is $150 and credited in full against an authorized repair. Photographs sent in advance make that appointment shorter and more accurate.

### Can another outfit do the small stuff and you do the structural work?

That happens and it is fine, provided the sequence is respected. Structure gets corrected and verified before anything cosmetic, so if a unit arrives already refinished over a bent rail the finish work gets disturbed. Tell us what has already been done and by whom, and bring any documentation, because it changes how the job is scoped.

### How bad is it really if somebody sprays my coach outdoors?

Bad in ways that surface later. Dust cures into the clear permanently, sun flashes the film before it levels and produces solvent pop, and overspray drifts onto neighbouring property. It typically looks acceptable for a season, then fails at panel edges, and correcting it means stripping back to substrate rather than polishing.
