# Dynamax Repair Where a Truck Cab Meets a Coach Body

> A Dynamax is a coach body behind a **Freightliner M2 or Sprinter cab**, so a collision runs through two parts systems. The truck half is fast. The **coach half sets the schedule**.

## How is a Dynamax Super C repaired?

Dynamax repair splits at the cab to house joint. Freightliner M2 or Mercedes cab damage follows truck procedure and truck parts timelines, while the DX3 or Force coach body follows Forest River divisional sourcing. Rancho Santa Margarita owners get both scoped on one Yorba Linda file.

- DX3 uses the Freightliner M2 106, Force HD the M2 112
- Isata 3 is a Sprinter 3500, Isata 5 a Ram 5500
- Cab parts come through Daimler truck dealers
- Coach body parts come through Forest River divisions

### Key facts

| Item | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Chassis | Freightliner M2 106 and 112, Sprinter 3500, Ram 5500 |
| Owner | Forest River division since 2011 (Built in Elkhart, Indiana) |
| Body rate | $210 per hour (Fiberglass, full body paint and structural work) |
| Cab parts advantage | Truck dealer network (Sheet metal and glass on commercial timelines) |
| Estimate | $150 (Credited in full against an authorized repair) |

A Super C is two vehicles that were joined at a factory, and the repair respects that. Ahead of the joint you have a Freightliner or Mercedes commercial cab with published procedures, a dealer network and parts that ship overnight. Behind it you have a hand built coach with molded caps and full body paint.

Owners are often relieved to hear the cab half is straightforward. What they need to plan around is the coach half, and specifically the joint where the two meet, because that is where sealant fails and where a hit transmits damage in both directions.

## Two parts systems on one estimate

On a DX3 the cab is a Freightliner M2 106. On a Force HD it is the heavier M2 112. Both are supported by Daimler truck dealers, which means a fender, a hood, a windshield or a mirror arrives on the same timeline a fleet truck would get. That part of the estimate is predictable, and we quote it with confidence.

The coach body is Dynamax work inside the Forest River structure. Molded caps, skirt panels and painted components come from the division rather than from a central warehouse, and lead times are measured in weeks. When both halves are damaged we sequence the job so cab work happens while coach parts are in transit rather than after.

## The cab to house joint and why it leaks

Behind the cab, the coach structure attaches and the gap between the two is sealed with a flexible joint. That joint moves constantly, because a truck cab on its mounts and a coach body on the frame do not flex identically. Sealant hardens, the joint opens, and water enters at the top corners where nobody looks.

The symptom is usually a stain on the cabover ceiling panel or a musty smell rather than a visible drip. We inspect the joint on every Dynamax that comes in for anything, because catching a hardened seal is a modest job while replacing wet ceiling structure is not.

## Full body paint on a commercial cab

Dynamax paints the truck cab to match the coach, which produces a handsome vehicle and a specific repair problem. A replacement fender arrives in truck primer or in a factory color that has nothing to do with your coach scheme, so every cab panel replacement is also a paint job with graphic layers carried across a Freightliner panel.

We map the scheme across the joint before disassembly so the graphic lines still align afterward. This is where shops that treat the cab as a truck and the coach as an RV produce a vehicle with a stripe that steps at the joint. Getting it right is measurement, not talent.

## Weight, towing and what a rear hit really damages

These coaches tow heavily, which means the rear structure carries hitch loads no towable ever sees. A rear impact on a Force HD is not just a cap repair: the hitch receiver, its mounting to the frame, and the coach structure around it all need measurement before anyone talks about fiberglass.

We check receiver alignment and frame extension geometry against published dimensions, then repair or replace the mount before the cap goes back on. A cosmetically perfect rear cap over a bent receiver is a liability, not a repair, and it is the kind of thing that only shows up when the owner hitches a trailer three months later.

## How we run a Dynamax file

Body, paint and structural work bills at $210 per hour, mechanical and electrical at $260, and diagnostics at $285 with a one hour minimum credited against an authorized repair. A written estimate is $150 on the same terms. Jobs over $2,000 take a 50 percent deposit, and over $10,000 a further 25 percent when parts arrive.

We are independent, with no dealer relationship involving Dynamax, Forest River, Daimler or Freightliner. All work is performed in shop at Yorba Linda. That is a real constraint on a Super C, since these coaches need both a truck bay and a full length booth, and very few buildings have both.

## Questions and answers

### Do Freightliner cab parts for a DX3 come from a truck dealer?

Yes, and that is the good news in a Super C repair. Hoods, fenders, glass, mirrors and lighting are M2 chassis parts supported by the Daimler network on commercial timelines. Coach specific panels behind the cab are the slower half, which is why we sequence the two phases deliberately.

### Why is my Super C leaking behind the cab?

Because the joint between a truck cab and a coach body flexes differently on each side and the sealant eventually hardens and splits. Water enters at the upper corners and shows up as a ceiling stain rather than a drip. Resealing early is inexpensive. Replacing wet ceiling structure is not.

### How do you keep a paint stripe aligned across the cab joint?

By measuring the scheme on both sides before anything comes apart, then setting the graphic geometry from those measurements rather than eyeballing the new panel. A replacement cab panel arrives with no scheme on it at all, so the alignment is rebuilt from data taken off your vehicle.

### Should the hitch be inspected after a rear impact on a Force HD?

Always. These coaches tow real weight, so the receiver and its frame mounting carry loads a towable never sees. We measure receiver alignment and frame extension geometry before refinishing. A straight cap over a bent receiver looks finished and is not safe to tow behind.

### Is an Isata 3 repaired the same way as a DX3?

The principle is the same and the scale is not. An Isata 3 sits on a Sprinter cab chassis, so the front half follows Mercedes procedure and control points rather than Freightliner truck practice. The coach body behind it is smaller and lighter, which shortens both the paint and the structural side.
